Lucille Floyd was born on March 4, 1935, in Waynesboro, Mississippi, to the late Leonard Hundley Sr. and Pigeon Hundley. On January 13, 1953, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Floyd Jr., and together they built a beautiful family, raising 14 children with love, strength, and grace.
Lucille, affectionately known as “Grams” to her grandchildren and “Momma Floyd” to many in her community, was a woman whose heart overflowed with love—especially for children. She had a deep passion for gardening and found joy in teaching her children and grandchildren how to grow fruits and vegetables. Her gardens were a reflection of her nurturing spirit and her belief in cultivating both the earth and the soul.
She dedicated 25 years of service to the City of Hattiesburg as a school crossing guard, ensuring the safety of countless children and greeting each day with a smile that could light up a room. Lucille was also a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary 225 and the Foster Grandparent Program, where she continued to pour love and wisdom into younger generations.
Lucille’s vibrant personality extended beyond her family and work. She had a love for motorcycles and music, and her connection with the Hattiesburg Ruff Ryders brought her immense joy. She was known for dancing, laughing, and being the life of every gathering. Her energy was infectious, and her presence unforgettable.
She served her community in many roles—working the voting polls, volunteering at Jones Elementary and Jeff Davis Elementary, and taking on leadership positions such as PTA president, secretary, and cheerleading coach. Her devotion to service was matched only by her faith. Lucille was a devout Christian and a dedicated member of Star Light MB Church, where she lived out her values with humility and strength.
Lucille is preceded in death by her children Delores Floyd, Tonnie Floyd, Larry Floyd, Leonard Floyd, Catherine Floyd, and Jimmy Lee. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: Johnny Floyd, Jessie Moore, Janet Clark, Sharon Floyd, Shelia Sandifer, and Vallorine McLeod, along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her spirit forward.
Lucille Floyd was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, friend, and servant of God. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
